2 sources state player set for Rangers exit – ‘Successful conclusion’ in negotiations with Russell Martin’s side

On July 28th, RTI Esporte reported Sport Recife are working on signing Rangers’ José Cifuentes. He’s now set to leave Russell Martin’s side, but to join Toronto FC.

That’s according to Olé, who report the 26-year-old will pack his bags to leave Rangers for the MLS side.

It’s claimed the Canadian club will sign the Rangers player on loan with an option to buy, without mentioning the purchase option fee.

The Ecuador international left Los Angeles FC and made a switch to Ibrox in August 2023. He failed to impress for the Scottish club and was sent on loan to Cruzeiro and Aris.

Cifuentes returned to Rangers, where it was decided it was best for leave Ibrox again this summer.

Journalist César Luis Merlo, writing in his column for Studio Fútbol, backs up Olé’s claim that the midfielder will join Toronto FC on loan with a purchase option.

Negotiations were in advanced stages, and the Canadian club had to work against the clock as the MLS window closes on August 21st. César Luis Merlo claims ‘everything came to a successful conclusion’ with Russell Martin’s side.

He reports this is now a ‘done deal’ and therefore, Cifuentes’s transfer should be made official shortly.
