The 49ers Rangers takeover is completeâand with it comes a bold new direction for the club. American investment group 49ers Enterprises now own a 51% stake in Rangers FC, giving them control and a mandate to transform the clubâs future.
Led by Paraag Marathe, the group brings a proven track record from the NFL and a clear ambition to modernize Rangers on and off the pitch. This isnât just about ownershipâitâs about returning Rangers to the top of Scottish football, and beyond.

The deal included buying out a number of existing shareholders. That list includes New Oasis Asset Limited (12.96%), which belonged to former chairman Dave King.

đ Whatâs Next for the New Board?
đ§ A New Manager on the Way
The new boardâs first task? Appoint a manager who can lead the rebuild.
Top of the list is Davide Ancelotti. At 35, heâs already coached at Bayern, Everton, Napoli, and Real Madridâalways as his father Carloâs right-hand man. His CV is strong, and his reputation growing.
Another name in the mix is Francesco Farioli. Known for his sharp tactics and pressing style, Farioli has managed in Turkey, France, and most recently Ajax. His modern approach could be a game-changer at Ibrox.
đ New Sporting Leadership
Rangers have also appointed Kevin Thelwell as Sporting Director. Heâs worked at Wolves, Everton, and most recently in the MLS. Thelwellâs role will cover recruitment, analytics, and aligning the football department with the clubâs wider strategy.
Joining him is Gretar Steinsson, a former technical director with the 49ers and Bolton Wanderers. Heâll help oversee football operations and assist in the managerial search.
đď¸ Plans to Expand Ibrox?
The board is also reviewing plans to expand Ibrox.
Ideas on the table, as outlined by the previous board:
- Corner stand expansions: Adds around 1,300 seats per corner.
- Filling in corners: Could create 3,000â4,000 more seats.
- Lowering the pitch: Adds up to 4,500 seatsâbut Rangers may need to play away from Ibrox during work.
These plans arenât newâformer CEO James Bisgrove first floated them. But with new funding, the board might finally bring them to life.
đ° Bigger Budgets, Bigger Goals
With fresh backing, Rangers are expected to spend more in the transfer market. That means stronger squads, deeper benches, and a genuine fight to reclaim the Premiership title from Celtic.
The real aim? Regular Champions League qualification and making Ibrox a fortress once again.
