Player ‘almost’ joined Rangers this summer – Russell Martin’s side were ‘serious option’

Rangers had looked at Holstein Kiel’s Tymoteusz Puchacz for the left-back position this summer before Russell Martin’s side signed Jayden Meghoma on loan from Brentford last weekend.

The Scottish club wanted to improve the left side of their defence and had Puchacz and the Brentford player on their list.

Puchacz was said to be close to joining Rangers. That’s at least what Meczyki in Poland are reporting, and they provide an insight into his failed move to Ibrox.

He spent the second half of last season on loan at Plymouth Argyle and returned to the German club.

Two months ago, Holstein Kiel manager Marcel Rapp said the 26-year-old isn’t part of his plans and needs to find another club this summer. This would have alerted a few teams, including Rangers.

The Poland international has rejected an offer from Lech Poznań as he felt it wasn’t the right for him to return to his country. His desire has been to find another European club and Russell Martin’s side were said to be a ‘serious option’.

According to Meczyki, Puchacz ‘almost’ returned to the UK to join Rangers. However, the move didn’t go through because the Ibrox club signed Brentford’s Jayden Meghoma.

The Pole has no future at Holstein Kiel and needs to act fast to find a new club before this window closes.
