Rangers captain backs battle-hardened squad to rise to title challenge.Rangers’ ability to overcome the “intense noise” that threatened to engulf Ibrox in the opening months of the campaign has been a key driver behind their quest to win the Scottish Premiership title, says club captain James Tavernier.Winning just one of their opening seven league games under former head coach Russell Martin, Rangers’ title chances were largely written off by the time Danny Rohl was appointed in late October, having fallen 13 points behind league leaders Hearts with a third of the season already played. However, ahead of their split opener at home to Motherwell this weekend, Rangers find themselves just one point from the summit after a huge turnaround under Rohl. With just five games left to play, Tavernier explained why there’s confidence that Rangers can oust both Hearts and Celtic to claim their most remarkable title in many years.“I’ve been here a long time and I’ve seen a lot of players come and go,” said Tavernier. “From the outset of where we started the season, under Russell [Martin], there was intense noise around the place. It’s somewhere where you can’t just have a respite or breathing space to play for Rangers. You’re chucked into the deep end. I felt that a lot of new lads maybe felt the weight of that, especially young lads.Rangers captain James Tavernier is hoping to get his hands on a second Scottish Premiership title in May…

Rangers stalwart admits his time at club has gone by in a flash.Rangers captain James Tavernier is refusing to let this summer be his last and remains determined to keep playing at the highest level possible – even if he departs Ibrox this summer. The highest scoring defender in British history with 143 goals, Tavernier has lifted every domestic trophy during his time with the club, and was their star performer in the run to the Europa League final in 2022. However, the 34-year-old could see the curtain brought down on his Rangers career next month, with his current contract set to expire at the end of the season.Into his 11th season with Rangers, the skipper heads into the final five games of the campaign still unsure if he’ll be offered a chance to continue his story in Glasgow. Yet to truly to process that he could be facing his Ibrox swansong, Tavernier is preferring to keep his focus on beating both Hearts and Celtic to the Scottish Premiership title.“It doesn’t feel like it’s been long,” said Tavernier. “It feels like it’s gone so quick. Liam Kelly talked about a game recently that was four years ago and I was like: ‘That only felt like a year ago.’ Time flies these days compared to when you were a kid. As you get older, it goes so quick. You don’t realise how quickly it’s gone. I’ve loved every minute. It’s been a rollercoaster and I’ve wanted to win more trophies. But on a personal point, I’ve given absolutely everything and I’ll continue to do that.Rangers captain James Tavernier admits his time at Ibrox has gone by quickly…
