Director suggests Celtic need to replicate Rangers transfer approach – Offer isn’t enough
Celtic and Rangers have both looked to Go Ahead Eagles to improve their squad this summer. Brendan Rodgers’ side have identified Jakob Breum as a target, while Russell Martin’s side have already completed the signing of his former teammate, Oliver Antman.
Rangers reportedly paid €5-6m for Antman and secured him on a contract lasting until 2029. He impressed on his debut by registering two assists in Rangers’ 3-0 Champions League qualifiers win over Viktoria Plzen.
Celtic have made advances to sign Breum by offering €1.5m, which has been rejected. This was confirmed by Go Ahead Eagles managing director Jan Willem van Dop on July 29th. He also indicated the 21-year-old’s agent would favour his client joining the Scottish Premiership champions.
Algemeen Dagblad have published an interview with the Dutch club’s managing director, in which he covered various topics.
He was asked whether this summer has been busier than usual, without any mention of Celtic’s interest in the winger.
When responding to that, Jan Willem van Dop said Rangers were quick to wrap up the deal for Antman and has urged Brendan Rodgers’ side to follow the Ibrox club to secure the Denmark U21 international’s services.
“It’s not too bad. Enric Llansana’s transfer happened quite quickly, and you sensed there was still something to come,” he said.
“There was some interest from Celtic for Jakob Breum, but we felt the gap was too wide. Things moved very quickly around Oliver Antman and Glasgow Rangers. Celtic could have taken a leaf out of Rangers’ book, haha.”
