Nobel Mendy Set for Barcelona Medical as Rangers Transfer Nears Completion

Rangers are edging ever closer to securing the arrival of promising Real Betis defender Nobel Mendy, with reports confirming that the 20-year-old is scheduled to undergo a medical in Barcelona tomorrow ahead of penning a four-year contract at Ibrox.

Deal Details Take Shape

The transfer appears to be all but finalised. Rangers and Betis have reportedly agreed a fee of £2.5 million, including a 20% sell-on clause benefitting Betis in the event of a future profit-making sale. On the continent, sources suggest a slightly higher valuation of €3 million, aligning with the same sell-on terms

Why is the Medical Taking Place in Barcelona?

With Rangers still operating on a European schedule in between key Champions League qualifiers, Barcelona has been chosen as a convenient base for the medical. It allows Mendy to complete the formalities swiftly and join up with his new team-mates without unnecessary delays.

Mendy Could be the Perfect Fit

Manager Russell Martin has been seeking greater depth on the left side of defence, especially with Nasser Djiga suspended. Mendy, a tall, athletic centre-back with strong aerial ability, fits the profile perfectly. His age also means Rangers are not only solving an immediate need but investing in a player with considerable long-term potential.

What Happens Next?

If all goes to plan, Mendy could be officially unveiled before the weekend, giving him a chance to be integrated quickly ahead of the upcoming fixtures — including the crucial Old Firm match later this month.
