Player ‘one step away’ from joining Rangers – Negotiations with Russell Martin’s side in final stage

On Monday, we covered claims from Spain which stated Rangers are going all out to sign Real Betis’ Nobel Mendy this summer. It was also reported he’s chosen Russell Martin’s side over Rayo Vallecano.

Journalist Fran Campos Vázquez took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to report the latest on Rangers.

He claims Rangers have raised their offer to €4m plus bonuses for 80% of Mendy’s rights.

Monday’s edition of Diario de Sevilla reports Rayo Vallecano have withdrawn from bidding for the 20-year-old. That’s because he’s favouring a move to Ibrox and is expected to join Russell Martin’s side in this window.

Another newspaper local to Real Betis, ABC Sevilla, relays Fran Campos Vázquez’s claim and then provides their own updates.

Mendy came close to joining PSV Eindhoven earlier in this window, but the move collapsed. He’s been waiting to find a new solution and now appears to have found it with the Scottish club.

Rayo Vallecano offered €2.5m for 50% of his rights and were in advanced negotiations until Rangers entered the race.

Mendy has prioritised them over Rayo Vallecano. The report states he’s ‘one step away’ from joining Rangers if their negotiations with Real Betis, which is in the final stage, were to go through.

With all parties in favour of a transfer and Rayo Vallecano focusing on other targets, Mendy’s move to Rangers is likely to go through.
