Rangers have unveiled their latest friendly clash ahead of the new season.Rangers have announced a friendly with French club AS Saint-Etienne at Ibrox later this month.The Premiership side have been busy in the transfer market under new manager Derek McInnes with Lawrence Shankland, Ross McCrorie, Ben Godfrey, Dan Neil and Ivor Pandur all signed up. Fans are keen to see their new recruits in action and a clash with Ligue 2 opposition will provide a home chance to do so on July 22. It will see former Hearts head coach Ian Cathro – who lasted less than a year in the Tynecastle hotseat before rebuilding his management career in Portugal – return to Scottish football after being recently appointed Saint-Etienne boss.A famous bicycle that sits in the trophy room was gifted to Rangers by ASSE the last time they met in 1975 and they previously faced off in 1957 prior to that European encounter. Rangers will be nine days out from their league opener away at Dundee United, and by the time this friendly comes about, McInnes and co will know their potential opponents in the Europa League third qualifying round. The French giants will pose a strong test for Derek McInnes’ side in their preparations for the new Scottish Premiership campaign, which will begin nine days later at Tannadice.“The two clubs have a storied history, having clashed in European competition in both 1957 and 1975. It was the Gers, under the stewardship of Scot Symon, who prevailed over two legs in their first meeting, but the French side exacted revenge in the second round of the 1975/76 European Cup. Indeed, upon their visit to Ibrox in November 1975, Saint-Etienne gifted the club with a bicycle which continues to take pride of place in the stadium’s Trophy Room. Tickets for the fixture are priced at £20 for adults, £12 for concessions and just £5 for juniors.”…
