Reports this week claimed Rangers are contemplating a move for the Middlesbrough winger.
Downing, 34, is out of contract in the summer and could head to Ibrox on a free transfer.
Rangers boss Gerrard and Downing are familiar with each other during their time with Liverpool and England.
However, Gers fans are pleading with Gerrard to not sign the Boro ace this summer.
