Rangers have eight days to sign a replacement for Murphy, who could be out for a considerable period after a scan confirmed he damaged an anterior cruciate ligament when he appeared to jar his leg in the 3-1 win away to Kilmarnock last Sunday.
The 28-year-old, who only joined from Brighton earlier in the summer in a £1million deal, had made a promising start to his Gers career.
