Ibrox chairman Dave King went through official channels on Tuesday in a bid to open talks – a month after McInnes was identified as their main target to replace Pedro Caixinha.
Aberdeen released a brief statement which read: “Rangers have contacted the club asking for permission to speak to Derek McInnes and that permission has been refused.”
But the move for McInnes is far from dead.
