Rangers ready to beat competitor offer – Talks with player ongoing
Rangers want to add Real Betis’s Nobel Mendy to Russell Martin’s squad.
That’s according to El Desmarque, who say Rangers have made the defender one of their priority targets this summer.
It’s claimed Rangers have held talks with the 20-year-old to explain the role he would have under Russell Martin at Ibrox. The report then states ‘all that remains’ is for the Scottish Premiership club to convince the La Liga side, suggesting they have already convinced Mendy.
Rangers aren’t the only club to have swooped in for the Senegalese as Rayo Vallecano are also keen. Club Brugge have shown interest, but the report adds the Ibrox club are now ‘bidding more strongly’.
Earlier in this window, the Senegalese came close to joining PSV Eindhoven for €4m, but the transfer didn’t go through. Manuel Pellegrini’s side are still looking to find him a club and hope to collect close to €4m.
El Desmarque reports Rangers’ proposal would be higher than the €2m offered by Rayo Vallecano for 50% of Mendy’s rights, without mentioning figures.
Mendy’s preferred position is in the heart of the defence and he can also operate as a left-back.
